The two friends probably met at Street Sounds, the record shop that Gildas set up on Rue Bailleul in 1995, around the same time he was managing a nascent Daft Punk. Masaya arrived in France from Japan as a child and studied architecture before getting swept up in the ‘French Touch’. After returning from a trip to Japan in 2002, the now DJ duo – Gildas & Masaya – decided to set up their own label. Kitsuné – fox in Japanese – was soon on the map with its electro compilations that uncovered the best new talents, bands like Two Door Cinema Club, Digitalism or Parcels. Three years later the fashion label was born, then a first café followed in Tokyo in 2012. Today the lifestyle brand is global but continues to celebrate – between Paris and Tokyo – the founders’ passions across music, fashion, coffee, and more.
