The first cinema that Marin Karmitz opened in 1974 remains at the heart of the Bastille neighbourhood’s cultural life. Today mk2 operates more than ten cinema complexes in Paris. “Bastille was the first cinema I opened…We did a lot of crazy things, and it was a crazy idea. Our idea wasn’t to make cinema, it was to use cinema to change the world.”
