Marin Karmitz is the founder of the French independent cinema empire mk2, today run by his sons Nathanaël and Elisha. Comprising production and distribution arms, but also a chain of art-house cinemas, the company has helped to shape the history of cinema for half a century and counting. Marin started out working as assistant director to filmmakers of the Nouvelle Vague, including Jean-Luc Godard and Agnès Varda, before himself directing three feature films Seven Days Somewhere Else (1967), Comrades (1970) and Blow for Blow (1972).
