Born in Algeria in 1965 to a cleaning lady and housepainter, Kamel came to France as a toddler, later studying economics at the Sorbonne. In 1999, despite limited means and art-world connections, he launched his eponymous Paris gallery, focusing on photography via shows by the likes of Araki and Larry Clark. Nowadays he’s one of Europe’s most respected contemporary art brokers, representing icons like Daniel Buren, Philippe Parreno and Anish Kapoor. In Autumn 2020, he inaugurated a fourth Paris space, joining an outpost in London’s Mayfair.
